Ben is an Auckland-based singer, and has sung with several choirs, including the New Zealand Youth Choir, the Auckland Chamber Choir, Viva Voce, and the New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir. He currently conducts a training choir at his former school, Westlake Boys High School, and also occasionally dabbles in composition.

Outside of music, he is currently working towards a PhD in Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Auckland.

Jared is a choral conductor and part-time medical doctor, originally from Ashburton, currently based in Ōtautahi Christchurch. He has directed the Wellington Youth Choir, and the choral programme at Saint Kentigern College in Auckland, and is currently the director of The Cecilian Singers in Christchurch. He recently completed Graduate and Postgraduate Diplomas in Choral Conducting with Dr Karen Grylls at The University of Auckland. Jared is an alumnus of the New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir, the New Zealand Youth Choir, and the University of Otago Capping Sextet, and is part of a new vocal group in Christchurch, formed with local Voices members.

Benjamin Madden is a proudly born-and-bred Dunedin tenor trained by Pat Scally-Richardson and Judy Bellingham. Since finishing a Bachelor of Music in Classical Music Performance (Voice) and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at the University of Otago in 2014, Benjamin has been working as a choral director and private singing teacher in Dunedin. Benjamin is an alumni of the New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir, the New Zealand Youth Choir, and a current member of Voices New Zealand Chamber Choir. Benjamin attended the 2016 New Zealand Opera School and the 2017 IFAC Handa New Zealand Singing School. Benjamin currently directs choirs for Otago Boys’ High School and Otago Girls’ High School, and teaches instruments (guitar, drums, keyboard, ukulele and singing) at Abbotsford Primary School and Mornington Primary School. Benjamin works with the New Zealand Choral Federation as a mentor for primary school singing leaders as part of their Singing Matters programme, and is Assistant Music Director and Vocal Consultant for the New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir.

Benjamin has played a number of operatic roles with Opera Otago. Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, Monostatos in The Magic Flute, Dr. Ivor Chale in Dearest Maurice (John Drummond), Bob Cratchitt in A Christmas Carol (Phillip Norman, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni) and most recently as Jo in The Woman at the Store by Dorothy Buchanan. He has appeared with the Freemasons NZ Opera Chorus in La Boheme and Madama Butterfly.

Benjamin’s concert performances as a soloist include Ich freue mich in dir (Bach), Evangelist, St John Passion (Bach), Mass in B minor (Bach), Mass in C Major (Beethoven), Messiah (Handel), Mass in C minor (Mozart), Misa Criolla (Ramirez), The Crucifixion (Stainer) .

Outside of singing and teaching music, Benjamin is a big fan of Formula 1, an avid rock climber and a keen runner, enjoying running distances up to and beyond the marathon.

Judy studied flute from age 7 and joined choirs after moving to Wellington. Judy sang with St Pauls Cathedral Choir, Victoria University Chamber Choir, Tudor Consort and the NZ National Youth Choir from ’93 to ’99. Now in Auckland, Judy works as a producer, has two great kids and sings with V8 Vocal Ensemble, Auckland University Chamber Choir and Voices NZ.

Born in Auckland, Dilys Fong is frequently heard in a number of local choirs and as a soloist. Dilys is a keen ensemble singer, currently also a member of the Freemasons New Zealand Opera Chorus, the St Patrick’s Vocal Ensemble, and The Graduate Choir NZ.

Dilys completed a BMus/BSc in 2014 majoring in Physics and Performance Voice, under the tutelage of Morag Atchison. During this time, she was the recipient of the University of Auckland 2013 Pears-Britten Scholarship and 2014 Marie d’Albini Scholarship in singing. She performed recently in the premiere of Gareth Farr’s The Bone Feeder, and has been a soloist with Bach Musica, Auckland Choral, Auckland Youth Choir, North Shore Chorale, North Shore Camerata, Pakuranga Choral Society, and Handel Consort and Quire.

Dilys began singing in the acclaimed Key Cygnetures and Choralation choirs (Westlake Girls’ High School), and is an alumna of the New Zealand Youth Choir. She has also been a member of the University of Auckland Chamber Choir, and the Age of Discovery Vocal Ensemble.

Alex was a member of the NZYC in 1999. She has worked in the arts sector since 2002 and is currently New Zealand Opera’s Wellington Development Manager. Alex has very fond memories of singing in the New Zealand Youth Choir and continues to sing in choirs when she can.

Wendy was a founding member of Euphony at Kristin School, and from there she moved on to the New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir (1999-2000) and the New Zealand Youth Choir (2002-2007). She also joined London’s Voce Chamber Choir for a couple of years when she lived in the U.K.

Wendy has been a member of the Auckland Chamber Choir on and off since 2000 and has sung with Voices since 2014. She is interested in baroque and renaissance polyphony and other small chamber ensemble singing, previously singing in the Voices of the Age of Discovery ensemble.

Originally from Hamilton, Rachel moved to Auckland to study performance piano with Tamas Vesmas. During this time, Rachel studied conducting with Karen Grylls and sang with the Auckland University singers. From there she studied performance piano at the Franz Liszt Academy in Hungary.

Rachel has been singing with Viva Voce for the last 8 years and was the Musical Director of the Auckland Youth Choir. Rachel now enjoys being a full time mum and performing with Viva Voce. She also works as an accompanist and teaches music privately.
